Mahomes Passing in 2022 vs 2023 - Bye Week
A deeper dive into Mahomes this year vs his MVP year in 2022 through the bye week
Heading into the season I didn’t think it was going to be as big of a struggle as it has been for the Chiefs this season. Mahomes has struggled to continue the pace of his 2022 season. We will see how things progress after the bye week and see if they can progress together as a young offense.
Be sure to check out this article to see where Mahomes stood after the first four weeks here:
Overall the Chiefs are on pace where they were last year at the same time frame. At 7-2 after the first nine games the Chiefs went on to only lose a single game over the rest of the season. This year their schedule over the next eight games is going to be tough but they could still end up winning seven of the next eight.
Passing
Surprisingly Mahomes has a better completion percentage this year compared to 2022 but his lack of passing yards for this season is mainly due to a drop of about 30 attempts over the first nine weeks. Add in that he is averaging about .7 yards per attempt less than he did in 2022 and the slowed pace makes more sense.
When looking back at the first four weeks Mahomes was only 100 yards off his MVP pace in 2022 in yards. Being only 25 yards per game off the pace after the first month of the season and the Broncos on deck for two of the next five weeks it seemed he could catch his MVP pace. Unfortunately over the past two games, Mahomes has just over 400 yards passing as the Chiefs offense has continued to struggle.
