Chiefs Free Agency Period To Date
Let's take a look at all of the moves we have seen the Chiefs make to this point and what it will cost them
I took a deep dive into Jones’ contract here:
Jones' Massive Contract - How's it Breakdown?
First, I have to say this deal and its structure for 2024 tell me the Chiefs are probably all in on trying to get a three-peat! Since this is such a big story for the Chiefs to keep him, I’m unlocking this so everyone knows what I will get into with the cap and how deep it will go. There will be much more coming for free agency so subscribe now!
I also took a look at Drue Tranquill’s deal here:
Chiefs Sign Drue Tranquill to 3-Year Deal!
On Thursday night, the Chiefs agreed to a three-year deal with Drue Tranquill, totaling $19 million, with $13 million guaranteed. This means his APY is $6.33 million annually, putting Tranquill around 17th in the league and currently in the LB position. Overall, I think that’s an excellent deal for Tranquill, and I feel it will look even better when we get more information.
And obviously, for the time being, Sneed is back, and I talk about that here:
Chiefs Tag CB L'Jarius Sneed
The Kansas City Chiefs may potentially trade standout corner L’Jarius Sneed if they cannot reach a long-term deal in the coming days. The Chiefs have moved to tag Sneed and are focusing on trying to resign Chris Jones. With him now being tagged, Sneed can find other teams to offer him a deal, and if the Chiefs don’t want to match it, they could trade th…

The Chiefs have brought back several of their players. Let’s start with the EFRA players they brought back on one-year deals. Essentially, these players have accrued less than three years in the NFL. Their contracts are for the league minimum for the years they have accrued. Cole Christiansen, Malik Herring, and Jack Cochran each have two years accumulated in the NFL and will cost the Chiefs $985,000 per player. Nazeeh Johnson and Mike Caliendo each have only one year of accrued experience in the NFL and will cost $915,000 per player.

The Chiefs have also brought back several of their own players. James Winchester signed a one-year deal for $1,377,500, which includes a $167,500 signing bonus. Deon Bush also signed a one-year deal for $1,377,500, which includes a roster bonus of $167,500. The best part of these signings is that they only count $1,152,500 and $985,000, respectively, against the cap in 2024.
The Chiefs have also brought back Mike Pennel on a one-year deal, but his contract info has not been released. Late Thursday, the Chiefs also agreed to a deal with Derrick Nnadi. My best guess is that they are both on league minimum deals for their experience, which would mean $1.125 million with up to a $167,500 signing bonus each.
Chiefs Four-Year Qualifying Free Agents
This is a category the Chiefs continue using year after year to bring back players who have played with them for at least four years. These players have been with the Chiefs for four straight years (minimum), and these contracts are not available to other teams’ free agents. The Chiefs brought back Tershawn Wharton on a likely qualifying offer this year. He will earn $1.125 million as a base salary with a $167,500 signing bonus. As a qualifying fourth-year player, he will also receive $1.45 million as added pay that will not count against the salary cap.

You can find updated info on Hollywood Brown here:
Chiefs Sign Hollywood Brown to 1 Year Deal!
The Kansas City Chiefs finally made a big move to help their wide receiver room and get Patrick Mahomes a new weapon. Brown fits a real need for the Chiefs and should give them the speed to take the top off a defense. With Kelce, Rice, and Brown, the Chiefs receiving threats should be enough to overwhelm all but the stringiest defenses.
The Chiefs have also added a young tight end to their roster, Irv Smith, Jr. His contract with the Chiefs has a $1.125 million base salary and a $167,500 signing bonus. His cap number for the season will be $1,152,500.
The Chiefs’ available cap space is a little questionable right now without official numbers for Pennel, Nnadi, and Brown. I will update the information when more information becomes available.
