State of the Chiefs Passing Game After Week 4
The Chiefs and their passing attack took a step back in week four
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs passing game had a great first quarter against the New York Jets. After the first quarter, the passing game became much more dicey throughout the rest of the night. There are several reasons the Chiefs’ passing game struggled against the Jets including poor decisions by Mahomes, a struggling offensive line, and wide receivers not finding ways to get open. Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes struggled at times against the New York Jets. Anytime you throw multiple picks in a game, there will be plays that aren’t pretty. The two picks Mahomes threw against the Jets were atrocious. I understand he’s human (even though most of the time he gives people reasons to question that) but his two picks on Sunday night showed bad decisions we aren’t used to seeing him make.
He is able to get away with a lot of passes that 95% of the QB’s in the NFL shouldn’t even try. In this case, he left both passes terribly short and the culprit is likely his footwork. Mahomes threw off his back foot falling away from the throw on each one and left the ball well short. Had he stepped into the throw he likely at least gets it close to the Chiefs receiver and it’s at worst an incomplete pass.
