State of the Chiefs Passing Game After Week 11
It's the tale of two halves for the Chiefs again for the third week in a row
This has been a very rough offense to watch at times this season. It looked like the Chiefs took steps forward during the bye week and figured some things out on offense in the first half of the Eagles game. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the second half happened again and they went right back into not functioning on offense. We’ve talked at length about the problems but I’ll just mention them here: drops, penalties, and turnovers. Until they figure out how to eliminate these mistakes issues will continue.
Patrick Mahomes
We are going to break this into the tale of two halves looking at Mahomes’ stats. In the first half, Patrick was 10 for 16 for 78 yards 2 TD’s, and 1 INT. While not eye-popping and the best half of his career or even of this season it was efficient enough to score 17 points total and have a two-score lead heading into halftime. Completing 62.5% of his passes for less than 5 yards per attempt is definitely not something you want from your QB but again they had a two-score lead heading into halftime.
If we move to the second half, Mahomes was 14 for 27 for 99 yards with no TD’s or INT’s. Just over a 50% completion percentage and just over 3.6 yards per attempt in the second half. Obviously, drops caused issues for the Chiefs in the second half but it wasn’t a good game regardless as the passing game continued to cause issues moving the ball. I’m not saying it’s all on Mahomes but he is still taking shots at times when taking what the defense gives him would allow the offense to keep moving.
