State of Chiefs Passing Game After Week 15
Things started to look a little better with the Chiefs winning against the Patriots, but issues still plague the Chiefs’ offense. Penalties and turnovers continue to slow the offense down, even on days when they start to look the part. Two turnovers and two drops changed the way this game played out.
Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes had his best day throwing since the end of October, and the Chiefs would put up 27 points. There’s an argument to be made that both interceptions were more on the receiver than Mahomes and that he was accurate with his throws throughout the game. The ball to Toney was absolutely on him, but even the throw to Bell should have been, at worst, an incompletion if Bell attacked the ball instead of letting it come to him.
Mahomes continues to give his pass catchers chances, and in most cases, they continue to let him down. Getting more people involved in the offense would make sense if they switched the number of snaps they all receive. The Chiefs, however, seem content to run Watson and MVS out on the field for 30+ snaps a game each, which means that Patrick really only has one or two targets to throw to.
