State of Chiefs Passing Game After Week 3
The Chiefs passing game still looked a little off against the Falcons on Sunday night
The Chiefs moved to 3-0 on the year, but there are still more questions than answers regarding Mahomes and the Chiefs' passing game. After a very poor statistical performance against the Bengals, the Chiefs game out-threw them. The problem was that the stats didn’t really improve much. Kansas City moved the ball early and then struggled once the Falcons started to make adjustments.
Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes had another poor interception against the Falcons and another play that would have been a TD if he had made a slightly better throw. He’s been off to start the season, and it shows every time they step on the field. His footwork is sloppy and he’s not making accurate throws because of it.
On the day, he completed five for ten of his third-down opportunities, which either resulted in a first down or a TD. Overall, the Chiefs were only six for fourteen on third down, so it is still something they will need to work on. Patrick has been spreading the ball around on third down so far this season, with Rice, Watson, and Kelce having at least two targets on third down.
