State of Chiefs Passing Game After Week 16
The Chiefs passing game was atrocious most of this weeks loss
This is not a fun game to write about because so few things went right for the Chiefs against the Raiders. The Chiefs are likely less than a month from having their season over. Can they find a way to play better for a week in the playoffs? Sure. The reality, however, is they haven’t shown consistency in any other way besides being inconsistent this entire season.
Patrick Mahomes
This was a bad game for Patrick. He didn’t get great help from the line or the receivers, but he left plenty on the field and made several bad mistakes. The botched trick play isn’t on Patrick, but the pick-six was. Mahomes telegraphed the play design and threw it into the DB’s arms across the field. If it was his only mistake on the day, it’s a different story.
Mahomes took a couple of sacks early in the game, changing his normal ability to play the rest of the game. He started looking down at the coverage, which is the worst thing a quarterback can do. His inability to keep his eyes downfield created missed chances and made him likely work harder than he had to. Several times, he appeared during the game where he held the ball instead of trusting his guys to make a play. I get he’s been let down, but the only way to get past that is to play it hasn’t happened.
