State of Chiefs Passing Game After Week 12
The Chiefs break the second half scoring drought in route to a win!
The Chiefs passing game soared to new heights it hadn’t reached in a month. Funny enough, the game ended with the same score they had against the Chargers towards the end of October. One of the biggest storylines from the game was the lack of third downs. Against the Eagles, the Chiefs made it to third down 18 times and had two fourth down attempts. Against the Raiders, they had a total of 9 third downs and scored ten more points than they did against the Eagles.
Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes had one of his better games of the season against the Raiders. He completed nearly 80% of his passes for just under 300 yards and 2 touchdowns. As with all things, it went beyond the basic stats, though, for Mahomes on Sunday. One of the best parts of the game from Mahomes was the lack of plays that were possible turnovers. He protected the ball and had no passes that made you worry about it being picked off.
Not only was Mahomes not throwing balls that were turnover-worthy, but he also had some passes on Sunday that few in the NFL could make. Patrick had a throw to Kelce that he threaded over the LB’s shoulder and dropped in between two closing DB’s. He also had his second-best game of yards per attempt at 8.8, second only to the Chargers game, where he threw for over 400 yards.
