Potential Chiefs Trade Targets - Other Defensive Players
The Chiefs are buyers in the trade market who should they look at?
I’m taking a look at some of the names that could be available before the trade deadline on October 31st. I’m going to go through all of the names that people wanted to see and I’m going to split them into rankings based on what the Chiefs could or could not afford. This is not necessarily about whether or not I think the Chiefs should try to get these players. The Chiefs could add a little bit of help on defense by looking at the following players: Preston Smith, Josey Jewell, and Bobby Okereke. Let’s dive in.
Chiefs Cap Space
As a quick primer for these conversations, the Chiefs currently have about $3.88 million in cap space. Adding players at this time that are much more than the league minimum will constitute a need for several restructures.
Could Be Affordable
Josey Jewell
Ignoring the fact that I doubt the Broncos would trade in division this is a player that could add depth to a newly depleted position at linebacker for the Chiefs. His base salary in 2023 is $4.49 million and his per-game roster bonus is $510K total. The Chiefs would owe Jewell $2.5 million in base salary and $300K in per-game roster bonuses for the rest of the season. Not a move that I think the Chiefs would want to make and probably a little out of their price range.
