Jones Back! Chiefs Sign DT to Huge Extension!

The Kansas City Chiefs and Chris Jones have agreed in principal to a new extension!

Chris Jones is in Kansas City to stay and signs a massive contract just before free agency kicks off! His new deal is said to be for five years and $95 million guaranteed. We don’t know the deal's specifics, but we know that Jones will now be the highest-paid DT in the NFL!

There will be a lot of questions about how this will affect the Chiefs’ cap and bring other players back, but the Chiefs have pushed to go all in on a three-peat! Jones’ deal will make him the second-highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, behind only Nick Bosa. I will update this when the deal's final terms are out, but here is an early guess on my part.

His salary for 2024 is likely to be $1.25 million, much like all the other players the Chiefs sign. It’s with the minimum league salary. If they give him a workout bonus, it will likely be around $250,000, which takes his first-year number to $1.5 million. The biggest unknown is the signing bonus, but with a 5-year deal, they can use the longest proration of that bonus possible.
