The Kansas City Chiefs found a way to win against a Patriots team, making it much closer than it should’ve been. Without a couple of turnovers on their side of the field, the Patriots will likely lose by twenty, if not more. Unfortunately, like most of the other games they’ve played, the Chiefs gave their opponent a chance to stay in the game.
Offensive - 2nd Qtr - 2:09 left - 3rd & 9 from Patriots 41 - Patriots 10-7
Mahomes drops back and has quite a while to survey the field but can’t find an open target. As he starts drifting toward the line of scrimmage, he finds Rice in the middle of the field wide open for a 20-yard completion to set the Chiefs up at the Patriots 21. This is a bigger play in the context of the season than just in the game. Rice sat down in the middle of the zone and looked over his shoulder to ensure he was in the right spot. If Mahomes and Rice remain on the same page, the Chiefs could have a future high-end number two wide receiver.
