Chiefs Trade for Joshua Uche
Chiefs continue to make moves bolstering the roster as the trade deadline approaches.
The Chiefs aren’t wasting time making a second move during the season, bolstering their pass rush with a trade for Joshua Uche from the New England Patriots. Uche is in the final year of his deal and will bring an element of a speed pass rusher that the Chiefs have been lacking all year.
Trade Compensation
They traded away their sixth-round pick in 2026 for the rights to Uche for the rest of the season. What makes this an even better trade for the Chiefs is if he signs with another team this offseason, they would be in line for a compensatory pick in 2026 for Uche, the same year that they’d lose the draft pick.
This is another smart move by Veach, bringing in another player who can contribute. Uche will likely take a week or two to get up to speed on the defensive side of the ball, but he wins when he has one-on-one matchups against tackles, and he has more bend than anyone else on the roster. While people will argue the Chiefs need a corner more, this move helps them both get to the passer and with their defensive backfield.
Contract Compensation
Uche signed a deal with the Patriots for a little more than $3 million guaranteed, but it mainly consisted of a signing bonus. He only has about $960K left on his current contract for the rest of the season. He also has $30K a game in roster bonuses for every game that he will be active for the rest of the season.
This is a cheap deal in terms of both trade compensation and money, and it’s a win-win for the Chiefs and the Patriots. Uche didn’t fit what the Patriots wanted to do on defense, and in Kansas City, he can become a rotational pass rusher who can help the Chiefs chase a third straight ring!
