The Kansas City Chiefs finally made another free agent signing. Former Steelers receiver Juju Smith-Schuster will join the Chiefs on a one-year deal.
After spurning the Chiefs a year ago to go back to Pittsburgh Juju adds a legitimate number two wide receiver to the mix in Kansas City. He may still be the third weapon in the offense but he should greatly help Hill and Kelce operating out of the slot.
It sounds like his deal will be for $3 million on salary and then incentives for the rest of the $7.75 million. We are still waiting to see how the incentives break out but they could be pretty low for Juju as he only played 5 games and had 15 catches for 128 yards.
Kansas City could easily give him incentives based on games available, catches, yards, TD’s and other accolades as well that would make them not able to be against the cap in 2022. That is the beauty of not likely to be earned incentives (NLTBE). Once that information is available I will update this story.
Several analysts across the NFL really like this signing for the Chiefs and I have to agree with them in both cost and fit for the team.
Matt does a lot of work with WR’s imparticular and is a great follow for more information on how receivers perform year to year.
And from Juju himself on why he wanted to come to Kansas City:
