Over the next month, I’ll review the Chiefs’ salary cap for each roster position. The interior offensive line for the Chiefs will make more than most position groups, but because of only one player in Joe Thuney. This theme on the roster will continue to appear throughout the rest of the reviews

Joe Thuney

Thuney is an interesting case for the Chiefs. He is 32 and will be in the next to last year of his deal with the Chiefs this season. His cap number is just under $27 million for 2024 and 2025, and if he’s cut in 2025, he will carry a dead cap hit of just under $11 million.

Thuney is a guy I’d like to see the Chiefs keep because his play has been great for as long as he’s been in Kansas City. The issue with keeping Thuney is that you have two other players in this same review, Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, who will be free agents after the 2024 season. You can’t keep the line's interior together even if you want without them taking big discounts.
