Chiefs Edge Rushers and Their Cap Cost
How much the Chiefs are spending on the edge and how they acquired the players
When the 2021 season ended on that cold winter day in January I was just sure that Frank Clark was not going to be on the Chiefs roster by the time the new league started. Here we are a couple of weeks before the draft and he is still on the roster and is by far the best Edge pass rusher they have.
How did the Chiefs get here with this group of edges? Where has their pass rush gone and how much are their edges costing them in 2022. Let’s dive in.
Frank Clark
Kansas City traded for Frank Clark the same year they traded Dee Ford to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2020 second-round pick. That trade to the 49ers gave the Chiefs the ability to trade for Clark from Seattle for a 2019 first-round pick, a 2020 second-round pick, and swapping picks in the third round of the 2019 draft. That second-round pick could be looked at as a wash considering the Chiefs received a second in 2020 for Ford.
Clark’s production for the Chiefs hasn’t been what fans hoped for when he was signed to his 5 year $104 million dollar deal after the trade. Three years into the trade and Kansas City restructured Clark this off-season to keep him in KC for his fourth season. While Clark hasn’t lived up to the contract he came up big in the biggest moments for the Chiefs helping them win the Superbowl in 2019.
