Chiefs Draft TE Jared Wiley!
The Chiefs added an athletic tight end to help take some pressure off Travis Kelce.
After the draft's first two days, I felt the Chiefs had hit both picks out of the park. With Worthy and Suamataia, the Chiefs were able to fill their two biggest needs before you even started the third round. Starting day three, the hope was to fill a couple more holes and add other playmakers to the roster.
Athleticism
Wiley isn’t the most athletic prospect in the draft, but he was very productive and brings great size and speed to the Chiefs’ tight end room. He will step in as the Chiefs’ third tight end and give them a better threat than what Blake Bell was able to bring. His size and blocking ability will help in the running game as well as the passing game.
The Contract
The total value of this contract is less than $5 million over the four years. Wiley will receive a signing bonus of about $678,000, prorated at around $169,500 annually. His salary for 2024 - 2027 will be $795K, $960K, $1.075 million, and $1.19 million, respectively. His 2024 cap number will be around $964,000, which means he will not count against the 2024 salary cap until after the final cutdowns. For 2025 - 2027, his cap numbers will be around $1.130 million, $1.245 million, and $1.36 million, respectively.
