C.J. Hanson became the first player drafted from Holy Cross in 35 years. Choosing him in the seventh round was the only way the Chiefs could guarantee they would get him on their roster. Hanson likely received multiple calls from teams to become a priority undrafted free agent, but Veach picked him at 248 instead.

The Athletic Matrix

Hanson is a player who will likely need a season to contribute, but as a 7th-round pick, he shouldn’t be looked at as more than depth anyway. He led offensive linemen in his sack percentage allowed, but the level of competition obviously wasn’t the same. There are several areas he will need to improve on to get on the field, but the Chiefs have done well developing offensive linemen under Andy Heck.
