Chiefs Dates to Know Before the Season Starts
Here are the Dates You Need to Pay Attention To Until the Season Starts
Let’s dive into the dates that are going to be important to watch out for for the Chiefs over the next couple of months.
July 15th
This date only becomes a big deal for the Chiefs because of the Orlando Brown, Jr. contract extension.
If Brown isn’t signed to an extension by 4 PM ET on July 15th he will have to play this season on the franchise tag. There are a lot of questions as to whether or not the Chiefs can get the deal done by then. With a new agent and rumors that he wants to be the highest-paid lineman in the NFL, we will see if it gets done.
July 22nd
The Chiefs rookies and QB’s will report to training camp and will start getting acclimated to the training camp life in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
July 26th
The Chiefs veterans show up for training camp and report to Saint Joseph to start full training camp for the Chiefs.
August 13th - Saturday 12 PM
The first Chiefs preseason game will be on at noon against the Chicago Bears in Chicago. This will be the first time to see the team live.
August 16th
This is the first cut-down day. It was changed this season to be from 90 to 85 instead of to 80.
August 20th - Saturday 3 PM
The Chiefs will host the Washington Commanders and this will likely be the last time to see the starters until opening day.
August 23rd
Second cut down day. This year teams will cut from 85 players to 80 players.
August 25th - Thursday 7 PM
The Chiefs final preseason game hosting the Green Bay Packers. Could be the last time to see Aaron Rodgers in a Green Bay uniform in Kansas City, if he even suits up for the game.
August 30th
This is the biggest day on the calendar before the regular season starts. The Chiefs will have to be at 53 players on August 30th. Any player put on injured reserve to get to the 53 man roster is not eligible to return from IR.
August 31st
Practice squad players can be signed to contracts and this could also be a big day for claiming players or potential trades as well.
September 11th - Opening Day
And finally, we have opening day at the Arizona Cardinals before a primetime Thursday night matchup against the Chargers in week two.
