Chiefs Chasing Dolphins & Ravens for #1 Seed
The Chiefs no longer control their own destiny but they have a chance
Just a few weeks ago, the Chiefs controlled their destiny, a game up on everyone and holding most potential tiebreakers. Now they are a game back against the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens, but the Chiefs have the most manageable remaining schedule in the AFC. So, let’s look at the contenders for the number one seed and their next couple of games.
AFC East
The Miami Dolphins are 9-3 on the season, but they still have some challenging games coming up to finish their season. The Dolphins still face the Titans and Jets and then have back-to-back-to-back games against the Cowboys, Ravens, and Bills. While they likely can win three of the five easily, they did lose big to the Bills earlier this season. The Ravens and the Cowboys games will be telling how big a threat the Dolphins could be this postseason.
AFC North
The Chiefs’ most significant competition for the one seed is the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have the Rams, then the Jaguars, who could be without Lawrence. They finish the season against the Dolphins, then the 49ers, before finishing the regular season against the Steelers. The way the Ravens have played, I’d expect them to win four out of five with the big question mark against the 49ers. If they win four of five, they will end up, at best, the two seed if the Chiefs win out, as Kansas City has a better conference record.
AFC South
The big question in the AFC South is how injured is Trevor Lawrence. If he can play the next several games, their chances go up, but they are tied with the Chiefs at 8-4, and the Chiefs hold the tiebreaker because of the head-to-head win. The Jaguars play the Browns, Ravens, Buccaneers, Panthers and the Titans. Being tied with the Chiefs, the Jaguars have to win out and hope for the Chiefs to lose one of their last five.
